A backyard wedding at home was one of my favourite kinds of wedding. It just felt extra special to get married in one’s own backyard. Having a wedding at home was both intimate and sentimental.
Plus, having a wedding in one’s own backyard would guarantee that your wedding date was available, there was no venue deposit needed and there was no venue limitation (think having your dog at the wedding, more catering choices, etc.). Venues were also not cheap. You can splurge on other categories in your wedding budget or your honeymoon with the savings. Getting married in one’s own backyard provided great flexibility to personalize the day.
With great flexibility came great planning. It would be easier if you were planning for a small at home reception. If you were thinking of a bigger wedding reception at home like Adelin and Tom were, a professional planner can help organizing everything from restrooms to rain plan.
Adelin and Tom’s backyard wedding had a good mix of formality and causality. Their ceremony and reception setups were simple yet spectacular with the beautiful landscape on a property in King City Ontario. Adelin’s dad made the wood wedding arbor. Tom’s stepmom provided all the florals. Wedding centre pieces were wild flowers held in recycle glass bottles. The wedding ceremony was on a small hill surrounded by tall trees. The receiving table was under an apple tree. The wedding card box was a shoebox. An open bar was set up next to the pool. Guests dress colourfully for a sunny September day. Blankets were prepared for a cool night. Tom managed a winery in British Columbia and he handpicked the reception night’s wine list.
All in all, Adelin and Tom’s at home backyard wedding was very much personalized, excellently executed and fun. The professional wedding planning made everything seamless. The wedding design was minimalistic yet gorgeous and the touch of DIY decorations made the wedding extra intimate and personal.
